Easy Detection of Biomarkers

Researchers at the laboratory recently developed a new device called an immuno-pillar chip, which enables easy detection of biomarkers. It features hydrogel pillars fabricated inside a microchannel with a large number of antibody molecules immobilized onto polystyrene beads with a diameter of 1 μm (see figure). In the detection of disease markers, the chip was found to enable rapid analysis (total assay time: approx. 4 min) with high sensitivity. No special skills are needed for its use, and the device requires only small sample and reagent volumes (0. 25 μL each). The chip also supports multiplex assay for three biomarkers.
